Citi limits new credit card bonuses to just once every 24 or 48 months per credit card family. So for example when it comes to ThankYou points earning cards, you can only get one bonus on those cards every 24 months. This limitation has been in place for a long time now.
For example, if you look at the terms for the Citi Premier card , you’ll find the following fine print under the bonus:
But this language has now been removed from the welcome bonus for the Citi Rewards+ card, as reported by Doctor of Credit.
This is an interesting development and in theory it means that you should be able to apply and get the 20,000 points bonus even if you have received a ThankYou points bonus within the last 24 months. That’s if this is what Citi actually meant to do and it’s not just a glitch. If you decide to apply and test it out, I would suggest that you take screenshots of the offer and throughout your application. That way you have proof of the offer if the bonus doesn’t post automatically.
Keep in mind that the Citi Rewards+ card is still listed in the ThankYou family under the 24-month terms of the Citi Premier card. So if you are eligible for that 80,000 points Citi Premier bonus, you should apply for that card first, before testing out this change of terms in the Citi Rewards+ bonus.
Here’s the current offer:
